Ready to breathe new life into your favourite armchair? Join us for an immersive, hands-on upholstery workshop at Renew, where you'll work on your own chair while learning professional upholstery techniques from our experienced upholsterers.
Whether you're a confident beginner with some DIY experience or looking to build on your existing upholstery skills, this one-day workshop will guide you through the process of reupholstering your own armchair, giving you the confidence and practical knowledge to continue your project at home or tackle future upholstery projects.
Located at our state-of-the-art facility in Trafford Park, Renew transforms Greater Manchester's donated items into valuable resources, donating over £225,000 each year to local charities and good causes. By taking part in one of our workshops, you're helping us continue that work while learning a rewarding new skill.
What You'll Do
During this full-day workshop, you'll work on your own modern armchair under the guidance of one of our experienced upholsterers. You'll receive practical, one-to-one support while learning the techniques needed to confidently upholster your chair.
Please note that this workshop is suitable for modern upholstered armchairs. If you're unsure whether your chair is suitable, please contact us before booking and we'll be happy to advise.
What You'll Learn
Throughout the day you'll gain hands-on experience in:

Safe and effective use of upholstery tools

Removing existing upholstery safely

Using an industrial sewing machine

Creating professional seams and sewing techniques

Fabric measuring, marking and cutting

Pattern matching and fabric layout

Stretching and fitting fabric

Using pneumatic stapling equipment safely

Professional upholstery finishing techniques

Understanding upholstery materials and construction methods
Our experienced upholsterers will be on hand throughout the day to provide guidance, answer questions and help you make great progress on your armchair.
Materials
Please bring:

Your own modern armchair
-
3–4 metres of upholstery fabric (depending on the size of your chair)
All other upholstery materials, consumables, tools and equipment will be provided.
If you're unsure how much fabric you'll need or whether your chosen fabric is suitable, please contact us before your workshop.

Free parking is available on site, and the nearest tram stop is the Trafford Centre.

A packed lunch (or we're happy to recommend local cafés and eateries nearby)
For your safety, full-length trousers are required. Please do not wear skirts or shorts. We also recommend wearing steel toe boots if you have them. If not, we can provide safety footwear on site.
Workshop Fee
£275 per person
The fee includes expert tuition, full use of our professional upholstery workshop, all tools, and additional upholstery materials required for the workshop (excluding your armchair and fabric).

Collection is available from Tuesday- Saturday between 8.00am - 4pm.

Please check all measurements for your item before ordering to ensure that it will fit in your vehicle and home.
Please note the Hub is on an industrial estate with a number of industrial units. It is located towards the end of Nash Road on the right hand side after DHL and is accessible only by vehicle. Once you enter the site please follow the directions to Click & Collect.

Pre loved Items
All of our items are preloved and have been donated at one of the household recycling centres in Greater Manchester. All items are checked at the Greater Manchester Renew Hub before being put up for sale.
Warranty & Returns
We understand that buying a preloved item is a big investment, and we want to make sure you're happy with your purchase. That's why we offer a return policy on all items.
If you're not happy with your purchase for any reason, you can return it for a full refund within 30 days of the purchase date. Simply contact us via Shopify or email renewhub.uk@suez.com to organise a return. In the unlikely event that a problem does occur we cannot be held responsible for any consequential loss incurred. Returns to the Hub at Trafford Park and/or buyer pays for return postage.
