Looking to learn one of upholstery's most iconic techniques? Join us for a hands-on workshop at Renew, where you'll learn how to create professional deep buttoning while working on your own upholstery project. 

Ideal for confident beginners and experienced upholsterers alike, this workshop focuses entirely on mastering deep buttoning. Whether you're upholstering an armchair, sofa or headboard, our experienced upholsterers will guide you through every stage of the process, helping you gain the confidence and skills to achieve a beautifully finished result. 

Located at our state-of-the-art facility in Trafford Park, Renew transforms Greater Manchester's donated items into valuable resources, donating over £225,000 each year to local charities and good causes. By taking part in one of our workshops, you're helping us continue that work while learning a rewarding new skill. 

What You'll Do 

Bring along your own armchair, sofa or headboard and spend the day learning the traditional upholstery technique of deep buttoning. 

Working alongside our experienced upholsterers, you'll receive practical guidance while applying deep buttoning to your own project, learning the professional methods used to create beautifully upholstered furniture.

What You'll Learn 

Throughout the workshop you'll gain hands-on experience in: 

Understanding the tools used for modern upholstery 

Safe and effective use of upholstery tools 

Selecting the correct materials for deep buttoning 

Planning and mapping button layouts 

Creating balanced and symmetrical button patterns 

Making upholstery buttons 

Threading and securing deep buttons correctly 

Achieving clean folds and professional pleating 

Professional finishing techniques 

Our experienced upholsterers will provide one-to-one guidance throughout the day, helping you develop the confidence to use this technique on future upholstery projects.

Please bring: 

Your own armchair, sofa or headboard 

All fabric and upholstery materials required for your project 

We'll provide full access to our professional upholstery workshop along with all the specialist tools and equipment needed throughout the day.

Duration: Approximately 7 hours (9:00am – 4:00pm) 

Days: Tuesdays and Wednesdays

Free parking is available on site, and the nearest tram stop is the Trafford Centre.

What to Bring 

Please bring: 

Your armchair, sofa or headboard 

All fabric and upholstery materials required for your project 

A packed lunch (or we're happy to recommend local cafés and eateries nearby) 

For your safety, full-length trousers are required. Please do not wear skirts or shorts. We also recommend wearing steel toe boots if you have them. If not, we can provide safety footwear on site. 

Workshop Fee 

£150 per person 

The fee includes expert tuition, one-to-one guidance, full use of our professional upholstery workshop, and access to all specialist upholstery tools required throughout the day.
